The so-called "UIC" coaches named after the International Union of Railways were, from their entry into service in 1961, assigned to national and international services on the largest European trains. They were the very first cars in France to implement UIC recommendations: Mielich type access doors, rubber bells in place of the old bellows, unified electrical outlets to make them compatible with other European cars when coupling, 1 WC at each end on the side of the compartments with white window, ease of maintenance by ensuring that a defective part could be changed on any foreign network ... During the massive arrival of coral coaches from 1975, UIC coaches lost their importance on the largest trains and were gradually used on additional trains during large departures, agency trains or occasionally in reserve on regular trains.
